The International Road Transport Union – IRU and the National Union of Road Hauliers from Romania – UNTRR started a project for the development of business relations between Europe and Asia, called ”Europe – Asia on the Silk Road”, to capitalize China’s accession to TIR Convention, which is expected to happen in near future.
The project began in July 2015 and ended in September 2015, during this period a delegation of UNTRR followed the historical Silk Road, a route that is linking Europe to China since ancient times. The delegation arrived until China border with Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Mongolia.
The project followed the route: Romania – Bulgaria – Turkey – Georgia – Armenia – Georgia – Azerbaijan – Iran – Turkmenistan – Uzbekistan- Tajikistan – Kyrgyzstan – Kazakhstan – Russian Federation – Mongolia – Russian Federation – Ukraine – Moldova – Romania.
The goal of the project is to interconnect the business environment with the large markets in the Asian region, given that the countries of Central Asia showed a very dynamic growth in the use of TIR system in recent years.
